We know winter has arrived! Our students had a wonderful Christmas program last week and we had our first snow day today. If you missed the program, it has been recorded and will be played on the school Cable TV channel. In addition, we are trying to get it on our website. They did an excellent job and we want to share it with as many people as possible.
We have many more winter advisories out tonight and for the next couple days. Stay tuned and remember we go outside for recess unless the temperature or wind chill is 25 or below. So bundle up and get some fresh air while you can.
I hope your first snow day of sixth grade was enjoyable.

Matrix Friday
You might have heard your child talk about Matrix Friday. Every Friday we draw 3 student names out of a bag and 1 teacher name. We have 3 student coupons for the Snack Shack, one for each of them...if they qualify. Our Matrix has to do with our expectations at Hillcrest. This is a positive reward for those that do the right thing.
One is for perfect attendance that week. Another is for having their assignment book filled out all week and the third is not having any behavior issues in the classroom or the office. If a student doesn't fulfill their obligation for the coupon their name was drawn for, it is saved for the next week. We currently have 4 behavior coupons and 2 assignment book coupons waiting for someone on Dec. 5th's drawing.
Please encourage your child to fill out their assignment book. This is the easiest of the three. Attendance is the next and finally fulfilling classroom expectations. If you have a question as to what the expectations are, please ask. They are posted throughout the building on our Matrix.
Finally, we draw out a staff members name. We announce three or four clues for the students to try to guess who was drawn. Today's clues were: 1) Had to go a long way to get home. 2) However, recently moved to Lebanon. 3) New to Hillcrest this year. 4) Works with the HS band. I could hear many students in the hallways giving a guess. However, Mrs. Karissa Jaynes was our Matrix Friday winner. She is able to leave the following week, on one day, at 2:30. Just one way we can say thank you to our staff for doing a super job.
I hope your child will one day be drawn as a Matrix Friday drawing winner and is able to accept the coupon(s).
