This week we are on Spring Break. I, however, went to a Principals Conference. I'm sitting in a workshop right now learning how to us podcasting to produce our announcements. This is an exciting thought and I look forward to getting back to implement or try to implement.
Stay tuned and I'll try to share the other things I am learning to improve our school.

Thanksgiving has turned into Christmas
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We had a big day before we left around school. We started our day with eTIF drills and then some classes invited their parents into see what they are doing in class. It was a wonderful day to visit with parents during Mini-society.
In other news, Friday is an early release day. Monday will be Pearl Harbor Day. The Junior High Choir will come by to carol next week on Thursday. Please note the following classrooms for their Christmas programs on December 15:
11:00 - Calton/Robinson/Wright, Henson/Jaynes/O'Quinn
1:00 - Goans/McGinnis/Staats, Admire/Dickerson/Sutherland/Foster
The program will take place at Hillcrest Baptist Church so everyone will be able to be seated comfortably.
Our last day of Band for 2009 will be on December 14. Our last day of school in 2009 will be December 18.
It should be a great month. Enjoy and stop by to say HI!

November activity
It is time for our first United Nations Activity Night. It will take place on Friday the 20th, after school. Parents are asked to pick up their children at 5:30. Notes were sent home giving directions on what door students will go out to find their parents. If you are part of the back door pick up, please make sure you are facing the basketball goals to pick up your children. Then you can drive right out the parking lot on to Kennedy drive, next to Hillcrest Baptist Church.
We will have our quarterly drills on Tuesday the 24th. The e-TIF (earthquake, tornado, intruder and fire) drills will take place in the morning.
School will not be in session on November 25-27. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We will see everyone back on November 30.

Veterans Day Assembly
November 11 is Veterans Day. We are very proud of the men and women who have fought for freedom. At 9:00 a.m. we will have our Veterans Day Assembly. Mrs. Dixon has worked very hard to get the arrangements taken care of. The Choir will perform and there will be a slide show of students' family members who have served or are serving to protect our freedom.
If you are available, please come join us on the 11th at 9:00 a.m.

Red Ribbon Week
The end of October is upon us and now that Parent-Teacher Conferences are completed, it is time to start thinking about Red Ribbon Week.
Monday is wear red day!
Tuesday is Too cool to do drugs - Hippies
Wednesday is Too much going on - Sports/Hobbies
Thursday is stay in your comfort zone - PJ's
Friday is Don't get fooled - Twin Day
I hope you enjoy our Red Ribbon Week activities and dress up days. Remember to try hugs, not drugs.
Monday also starts our first Watch DOG dad visit. I hope all fathers and father figures get an opportunity to take advantage of finding out what happens with your child at school.

The week ahead
October has arrived and it is time to look at some activities that will be taking place.
First it is Homecoming week for LHS. The parade is on Wednesday and the football game on Friday. It is Hillcrest night at the game and students from Hillcrest are asked to help the football team get on the field. So, sixth graders can arrive at 6:30 to be prepared to cheer on our football team as they enter the field. Please do not drop off your child to be picked up after the football game. If you are not able to stay at the stadium with your child, please have them picked up by 7:00, next to the fire truck and ambulance.
Also this week is our second VIPS meeting. It will be Tuesday night at 6:30 pm. If you attended the first meeting, you can pass up this one. It will be the same information. We are still looking for dad's to help with the Watch DOGS (Dad's of Great students) program. If you are available, please come to the meeting.
As a huge Mizzou fan, Thursday is the Mizzou vs. Nebraska game in Columbia. Although it is a big game, please make sure your child is still getting the rest they need to be successful at school on Friday. I would hate for a short fuse at school to cause someone not to be able to attend the Homecoming game at the HS because they got in trouble.
Have a great week and enjoy this exciting time of year!
